The birds and the bees…
No, it’s not one of those articles! In fact the birds and the bees we’re referring to this week at Millbrook Beds are bird poo and bee stings and, specifically, bird poo facials and bee sting facials?
Fancy one? We thought not.
Yes, we’re not kidding you, there are such things as bird poo or bee sting facials and these are only some of the extreme beauty treatments available. Leech therapy, Thai slap massages and snail facials are also ‘a thing’. Genuinely we haven’t made them up, people are actually having these things done in the name of beauty and you can trust us that – disgusting as they are – they don’t come cheap either, i.e. more extreme the beauty treatment, generally the more it costs.
Of all the many reactions to finding out that beauty treatments like this exist, confusion and incredulity probably top the list. Here at Millbrook Beds, knowing all we do about sleep, our incredulity comes from a point of view that we don’t understand why people would willingly pay to put bird poo, slugs or leeches on their face rather than choose to invest in their sleep?
There will always be the next beauty fad. The next beauty salon selling an alternative therapy (purely for PR mileage?) and the next ‘miracle’ product that promises to turn back the hands of the clock. However, most experts – and especially those who aren’t selling anything – tend to agree that getting enough sleep, drinking water, eating well and limiting your alcohol intake trump fad beauty rituals any day of the week.
