The business of sustainable sleep

2021 has seen Millbrook Beds go further in our sustainable business practices than ever before – introducing innovative solutions to reduce waste and CO2 emissions to add to our existing sustainable policy.

For the longest time Millbrook Beds has invested time finding sustainably and locally sourced materials, using only timber from FSC managed forests and repurposing millions of plastic bottles  into mattress construction. Building upon this has been an ongoing mission since we achieved the Environmental Management System ISO14001:2015 standard in 2008.

New sustainable measures for 2021 include:

ï Partnering with The Planet Mark to achieve net zero carbon targets across all aspects of the business, and working towards achieving a recognised sustainability certification to measure our carbon footprint

ï Switching all mattress packaging to plastic made from sugarcane and recycled plastic which is 100% recyclable.

ï Creating The Dream Tree Initiative working with the Woodland Trust to plant trees from proceeds of mattresses sold.

Operations Director Ross Thurston comments;

‘We are utlilising 75 years of experience in creating mattresses for perfect sleep while constantly working towards a more sustainable future, without compromise on comfort or quality. For many years, our focus has been on sourcing sustainable, natural fabrics and fillings, with sustainability driving both our corporate responsibility and customer scrutiny.  We now have partners to work with to help us do our bit to tackle the climate emergency.  Sleeping soundly requires peace of mind, and our customers can rest easy knowing we have an environmentally responsible approach to making mattresses.  Because we believe sustainable sleep is the future.’
